He has a proven ability to work with local realtors, attorneys and other real estate professionals to make the process smoother and easier for every client. John has also spent a number of years working as a controller and compliance officer giving him a unique perspective of every phase of the business.
John was born and raised in Springfield and has lived and worked in the Northampton area for for over 30 years. He graduated Cathedral High in Springfield and Brandeis University with a degree in economics. His work before the mortgage business included playing professional basketball in Europe, then as a carpenter in Atlanta before coming back to Western MA and working in the investment and automotive fields. “As a first time home buyer who had no idea what I was doing, I really appreciated the promptness in communication and the professionalism. I really felt like my best interest was taken into account and I was able to fully trust the process. I really loved all the effort put forth to ensure I was able to find a home that was both what I was looking for and something I could afford.”
“I can’t say enough to recommend John Martin and Applied/Harbor One Mortgage. I had been working with another loan originator during this crazy pandemic market. When COVID-19 threatened to displace our family, we reached out to John at Applied Mortgage when our original loan originator neglected to get back to us in a timely fashion. The market was (and still is) highly competitive and there was no time to delay when seeing a home/making an offer. John immediately valued us as clients and got us pre-approved so that we could start making offers on properties. When our offer was accepted, John and his team made the process of underwriting so incredibly easy and helpful. What could have been stressful turned out to be enjoyable and easy. John and everyone on his team were friendly, articulate and ready to answer every question I had. We closed on time and are so excited to start our lives in our new house.”
“John did a wonderful job. Great communication and on top everything that was happening.”

“This was such an easy process from start to finish! Completing docs online, and being able to email bank statements, etc made the process so much simpler for me. I emailed John with many questions and he always responded quickly with the info I needed. It was also wonderful that I did not have find my own lawyer! The whole process went smoothly and efficiently and saved me money! I am very grateful!”
“To me you are not a company. You're family. I’ve gotten two loans from Applied Mortgage in the past. I will only use applied mortgage. When I use applied mortgage it’s like trusting a family member to make sure I’m getting the best deal with the confidence that you are looking out for my best interest. Thank you for all you do!”
“John and the team are very patient with me explaining the hole process to me. Very good experience I would do it again with them.”
